LAZARO, JKT – TPS
Systems capable of transaction processing must pass tests for atomicity, consistency, isolation and durability, otherwise known as the ACID test. Transactions are known as atomic, meaning that the transaction will either happen or not. If one account is debited, then another account has to be credited.
The transaction processing system must always be consistent with its own rules. If errors occur in the transaction on either side, then the transaction will fail. Isolating transactions means that other processes never see information during the transaction. They may see information before or after the transaction, but not during the transaction. For example, if two people are booking the last theatre seat at the same time, they can both see the seat before the booking, but only one person will succeed in booking that seat.
Transactions must be durable. This means that when that final seat in the theatre has been booked and you have received notification that the seat is yours, it is permanently recorded. No matter what problems occur to the system, there are back-ups in place in the transaction processing system to ensure that the record stays permanent.
Transaction processing systems have been available since the 1970s, and nearly all businesses use them. The advent of the Internet has seen a boom in transaction processing systems and software. Over the years, the cost of buying and implementing the necessary software has dropped so much that most businesses can apply it profitably. Banking from home, booking a holiday on the net, shopping and working from home are all now readily available and less time consuming, thanks to transaction processing.

Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) systems are one of the most common data processing systems in today’s enterprises. Classical examples of OLTP systems are order entry, retail sales, and financial transaction systems.
OLTP databases handle real time transactions which inherently have some special requirements. Just like if you’re running a store you need to ensure that as people purchase products your inventory must be updating at the same time.
The success of each transaction depends on how it is being processed; they must ensure that the customer’s needs are met on time and that the partners and suppliers are paid and can make payment.
Since OLTP systems can be such powerful business tool, its access must be confidential in such a way that it must be restricted to only those employees who require their use. This ensures the safety of each transaction wherein there will be only limited personnel who can access the system.
Consistency and rapid processing is very important in every transaction since the advancing of technology and the customers demand for immediate action. Transactions must be processed in the same way each time to maximize efficiency.

PANGILINAN, RF – TPS
“ A Transaction Processing System (TPS) is a type of information system that collects, stores, modifies and retrieves the data transactions of an enterprise.”It is also called Online Transaction Processing System (OLTP). I want to share this article that I think will make you more understand what a transaction processing system is.
Features of Transaction Processing Systems
The success of commercial enterprises depends on the reliable processing of transactions to ensure that customer orders are met on time, and that partners and suppliers are paid and can make payment. The field of transaction processing, therefore, has become a vital part of effective business management, led by such organizations as the Association for Work Process Improvement and the Transaction Processing Performance Council. Transaction processing systems offer enterprises the means to rapidly process transactions to ensure the smooth flow of data and the progression of processes throughout the enterprise. Typically, a TPS will exhibit the following characteristics:
1.Rapid Processing
The rapid processing of transactions is vital to the success of any enterprise – now more than ever, in the face of advancing technology and customer demand for immediate action.
2.Reliability
Similarly, customers will not tolerate mistakes. TPS systems must be designed to ensure that not only do transactions never slip past the net, but that the systems themselves remain operational permanently.
3.Standardisation
Transactions must be processed in the same way each time to maximize efficiency. To ensure this, TPS interfaces are designed to acquire identical data for each transaction, regardless of the customer.
4.Controlled Access
Since TPS systems can be such a powerful business tool, access must be restricted to only those employees who require their use. Restricted access to the system ensures that employees who lack the skills and ability to control it cannot influence the transaction process.
Transactions Processing Qualifiers
In order to qualify as a TPS, transactions made by the system must pass the ACID test. The ACID tests refers to the following four prerequisites:
1.Atomicity
Atomicity means that a transaction is either completed in full or not at all.
2.Consistency
TPS systems exist within a set of operating rules (or integrity constraints).
3.Isolation
Transactions must appear to take place in isolation..
4.Durability
Once transactions are completed they cannot be undone.
These four conditions ensure that TPS systems carry out their transactions in a methodical, standardized and reliable manner. These things are basic information that could help your understanding to transaction processing system.

PANGILINAN, RF – OLTP
One of the good candidate when choosing an information system to develop and study is the (Online) Transaction Processing System. In our case, our group had chosen this kind of information system because many business organizations are in need of this system to help them run their business by managing its data well in easy way and so on. Here are some of TPS definitions:
OLTP (online transaction processing) is a class of program that facilitates and manages transaction-oriented applications, typically for data entry and retrieval transactions in a number of industries, including banking, airlines, mailorder, supermarkets, and manufacturers. OLTP is optimized to support transactions like processing an order, recording and tracking inventory or recording employee payroll and attendance data. It is designed to process large volumes of concurrent transactions quickly. Today’s online transaction processing increasingly requires support for transactions that span a network and may include more than one company. For this reason, new OLTP software uses client/server processing and brokering software that allows transactions to run on different computer platforms in a network.
Transaction processing systems is defined as the backbone of an organization because they update constantly. At any given moment, someone may need an inventory balance, an account balance or the total current value of a financial portfolio. Also called “online transaction processing” (OLTP), the OLTP market is a demanding one, often requiring 24×7 operation and the most reliable computers and networks.
Nowadays, information systems like this are much given attention compared to manually writing all transactions on a piece of paper.. aside from its all advantages, it gives more accurate data.
This one illustration I’ve got from the net shows a transaction and batch processing:

Merchant Accounts – Transaction Processing Online
Having a merchant account and accepting transaction processing online is essential for success. An affordable merchant account with online transaction processing adds value and ease of purchase to your customers and creates buyers from browsers. The true value of a merchant account is found more in how many buyers you no longer turn away from your products.
Let us examine the traditional online shopper and some statistics concerning internet purchases. Traditional shoppers online have a multitude of choices, and they haven’t any divested interest in your product or service over any other. Impulse purchases are the most common form transaction and these are made possible with fast credit card processing shopping cart systems.
Merchant accounts with transaction processing for your online business allows the buyer to make instant purchases so you gain a sale before your purchaser is led elsewhere. The internet is an informed group, and your buyer is well aware he or she has many options online, there is no gain in making the path to purchase process more difficult than it needs to be when you don’t have credit card processing capabilities.
Finding an affordable merchant account and payment processing company can reduce your costs for service while increasing your customer base dramatically. Some limited statistics show that your average transaction amount increases by 23% when you accept credit card payments online, and it is well proven that the number of buyer conversions for your online business will increase dramatically.
Providing payment options for your customers with your merchant account adds value to their experience with your online business, where reputation and perception are everything for success. Online success has as much to do with building trust with your clients as with service and value, and credit card processing provides the instant recognition in customers that you take their experience seriously and have made efforts to increase their satisfaction by providing more options for payment.
No longer the old days of credit card processing with limited options, there are many merchant account providers online that you can choose from with unique suites of services that will apply for your specific business needs. Find an affordable online merchant account company and start adding to your bottom line today by allowing credit card processing with your business today.

It is true that today things are done with just a snap of finger. Before, the only option you have in shopping is to go in a department or supermarket then buy everything you need. But today, with the technology we have, shopping can be done even if you are comfortably lying on your bed.
Shopping online is the growing trend today. Merchandisers and consumers would greatly benefit from this trend. With the merchandisers, they do not need to worry about renting a place where they could sell their products. With OLTP they could just post their products online and transact with their consumers in their homes. They do not need to pay for any workers because a system would make their work easier and faster. And if a merchandiser has offered enough modes of payment, sales would eventually increase. With the choices such as credit cards, ATM transactions, G-Cash (here in the Philippines), consumers would enjoy shopping with the choices the consumer was offered. The same thing goes with the consumers. Consumers are given a vast choice of sites where they could search for the items they need. They do not need to tire themselves in going to a department store, instead they could simply surf the net for the products they need. With this, time, money and energy of both the merchandiser and the consumer are saved.

Cash Technologies System will Allow Consumers to Use ATM Cards Online
LOS ANGELES — Cash Technologies, Inc.is introducing EMMA, an e-commerce transaction processing system — along with iris identification products supplied by Moorestown, N.J. based Sensar, Inc. — that will enable customers to use their ATM bank cards to pay for merchandise purchased online.
“For the first time, Internet commerce merchants will be able to accept ATM card payments, instantly debiting the checking or savings account of the customer,” said Cash Technologies chairman and CEO Bruce Korman. “The system can also provide greater security for credit card and other types of transactions. Whether ATM or credit cards are used, consumers will be able to buy all they want online with piece of mind, knowing their iris identification transactions are 100% secure.”
The present ATM network, with annual transaction volume of nearly 10 billion transactions in the U.S., is used primarily for ATM cash advances and local debit transactions, and has not seen any Internet commerce to date. Credit card transactions dominate online purchases, yet credit card fraud has exceeded 10 percent of some merchant’s total sales volume, and disclaimed stock trades have become a significant problem for online securities trading firms. Improved payment security is considered a necessity to support the enormous growth expected in the Web commerce marketplace.
“We believe that Cash Tech’s EMMA system, in combination with Sensar’s high security iris identification products, will provide the next leap forward in online payment technology,” Korman said. “This offers significant advantages for online banking and trading operations, as well as merchants who will be able to expand their customer base to those without credit cards and consumers who are afraid to send credit card information over the Net.”

To begin with, OLTP or Online Transaction Processing is a type of TPS wherein Databases must often allow the real-time processing of SQL transactions to support e-commerce and other time-critical applications. (a definition from http://databases.about.com/cs/development/g/OLTP.htm )
In this article, the transaction made is payment through online. OLTP is applied in such a way that ATM cards may be used as a mode of payment in any transaction done online. Consumers may now pay through their ATM accounts instead of using credit cards which is quite a disadvantage in the part of an online business because of an issue of credit card fraud. With the use of ATM cards, online businesses won’t worry too much of this issue because payments are directly deducted in ATM accounts of the consumers. Through the system made by Cash Tech’s EMMA system, the ATM card or Credit card of the consumers will be secured because of the added feature of security iris identification products. With these, consumers won’t worry too much giving information about their accounts.
This system would be a great help in preventing the increasing rate of credit card fraud or identity theft. Both the consumers and the merchandisers would benefit from this system because of its added security and assurance that aside from using the credit card, payments may be done through ATM which is a guaranteed mode of payment.
